Viennese violet candies

These delicious sweets are made from real violets. The violet flower petals are dried and then candied. This gem comes from the C. and K. Court Confectionery. Demel. The candies were also popular with Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, better known as Sissi. They are still sold in their original packaging.

Salzburg Mozart balls

There are many copies, but this famous delicacy can only be found in Salzburg, Austria. These are chocolate balls named after the famous composer who was born in the city. They are made of pistachio marzipan, which is coated with nougat and then covered with chocolate. In 2005, they even won a gold medal at an international confectionery competition.

Austrian Sacher cake

The Sacher cake was created in 1832 by Franz Sacher, who created it as an apprentice at the court of Prince Metternich. It is a chocolate cake with apricot jam and chocolate icing. The original Sacher is sold under the trademark only in Vienna at the Sacher Hotel and Restaurant. There are many recipes for this cake, but the original recipe has been kept secret for years.

Apple strudel

Did you know that this dessert, which is also very popular in the Czech Republic, originated in Austria? There are many variations made from different types of dough - puff pastry, cheesecake, yeast dough and more. It is prepared by filling an oblong sheet of dough with grated apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins and possibly breadcrumbs. Sometimes walnuts or almonds are added. The dough is then rolled up like a roll and baked. It is served fresh, cold or warmed.

Punschkrapfen

This sponge cake dessert contains jelly, rum or punch and chocolate with pink icing. It is very popular and can be bought practically all over Austria.
