Mysterious atmosphere and careful preparations

The shortest night of the year is greeted with extraordinary celebrations in the Gastein valley. You will indeed feel that the surrounding mountains are on fire. Let yourself be drawn into a world of magic and mystery and enjoy this fire show to the full. According to the ancient tradition of solstice celebrations, shortly before midnight, the fire boundaries are lit from the mountain tops to the valleys. Such a fascinating experience you will never forget!

The atmosphere during the solstice celebrations is truly unique. Behind the enchanting show is a lot of hard work and intensive preparation by local organisations and volunteers. The branches for the burning are collected months in advance, while the anticipation of the spectators grows with each passing day.

Breathtaking views from the mountain peaks

The shortest day of the year is slowly drawing to a close, and young men head into the mountains, often on remote trails and in solitude, ready to light the pyre entrusted to them. A particularly beautiful spectacle of the whole show is enjoyed from the mountain tops, and for this reason special transport is set up during the night. Directly from Bad Gastein, the cable car will take you up to the Stubnerkogel, or from Dorfgastein, let the Fulseck cable car take you up into the mountains. On the Stubnerkogel, the event will be accompanied by live music from Alpine horns and local folk groups. Don't miss the jugglers' performance - they will put on a fire show true to the theme of the evening.

The Bad Hofgastein accompanying programme

In Bad Hofgastein, the celebrations run throughout the weekend and the town has a rich programme for visitors. It starts on Friday evening with the concert "CUBABOARISCH 2.0" by Leo Meixner's Cubavaria in the local Alpen Arena. Leo Meixner and his band Cubavaria play music influenced by Cuban rhythms and enjoy considerable popularity in Germany. In case of bad weather, the concert will be held indoors at the Kursaal. The concert starts at 8pm and admission is free.

On Sunday you can look forward to a concert by the Gastein band "U14-Musi", which starts at 11am. The musicians of the local scene are guaranteed to get you up out of your chair with their catchy rhythms.
