The waterfall in the centre is the landmark of Bad Gastein and one of the most famous waterfalls in Austria. The water falls from a height of about 341 m in three stages.
There is a nature trail around the Gasteiner Wasserfall, which was inaugurated several years ago. It is a beautiful walk through the historic town along the waterfall. The trail starts at a stone bridge dating back to 1840. You will walk along the Mirabell Hotel to the park near the Elizabeth Spring. The route leads to beautiful views of the countryside. At the foot of the Bad Gastein waterfall stands the historically important old hydroelectric power station, commissioned in 1914 - it was the first and largest hydroelectric power station in Salzburg. Originally built to support the mechanisation of gold mining, it began to provide electricity to the entire valley. The power station was closed in 2004 and is now under the protection of the conservation authority. The waterfall falls into the Gasteiner Ache river, which flows through the town.
Enjoy your holiday in the spa town of Bad Gastein not only on a beautiful stroll through the historic centre along the landmark of the falling water, but also discover other trails. Nature in the Bad Gastein valley is also rich in berries, so if you love blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cranberries or mushrooms you will discover your own gold mine.
