Salsburg: the Gastein Trail

After staying in Bad Gastein, the journey begins in the picturesque Dorfgastein. A short walk takes you over the oldest crossing in the Gasteinertal to a pilgrimage site that directly invites you to recharge your vital energy. The enclosed valley awakens anticipation of the next route, which leads over mountain ridges with magnificent panoramas.

The next section begins with a view of the Kessellandschaften and with each step the hustle and bustle of everyday life and human habitation disappears. Enjoy a walk through the romantic mountain wilderness. The nearby Walchalm-ebenfalls, overlooking Bad Gastein, is an ideal place to relax.

Along the old road you will climb to other mountain villages and alpine pastures. On hot summer days you can relax and cool off at the mountain springs.

In the next section you follow the old road between mountain pastures, flowering meadows and dense forests. Be sure to sample the homemade bacon, butter and cheese while you rest in one of the mountain villages.

Historic Angertal is the starting point of the fifth stage. You can also reach this region by rail and enjoy views of Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner. Here you will find old mining trails and traces of old mining monuments.

The last stage starts at another historic site, the Hohe Taurern National Park. This area offers impressive tunnels, avalanche galleries and architectural gems. It is an area famous for its healing thermal waters and promenades dating back to the Imperial era. The journey ends in Bad Hofgastein.

During the journey you will recharge your life energy, relax, get away from everyday worries and invigorate your body and mind.
