All cyclists who like hills will be interested in the Fulseck mountain. In fact, you can cycle to the very top of the mountain. But be warned, this is definitely not an easy ride.
You can start at the lower cable car station in Dorfgastein and then it's all uphill. The terrain is quite challenging. Most of the way is gravel, but you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the countryside from the top of the Fulseck.
The height difference that awaits those who decide to cycle the entire distance is 1170 metres, so it's really no cakewalk. But you needn't worry about not enjoying the journey, as you'll come across a number of pleasant pubs and seating areas along the trail.
Lake Spiegelsee, which can be found near the central station of the cable car, is a great resting place. In the cold water you can relieve your tired feet and relax in the beautiful mountain surroundings. This place is also popular with families with children. A barefoot path winds along the shore to massage aching feet.
Of course, there is not only one way to the top, but there are several different options to choose from. Some are very difficult, others can be managed by less experienced cyclists. Maps with the different routes can be found directly in the village of Dorfgastein.
There is also a solution for those who just want to enjoy the downhill. A cable car can take you and your bike up the mountain in comfort. But beware, even the descent will not be easy due to the serpentine and gravel road, so instead those who just want to enjoy the climb can use the cable car to go down.
If you really decide to take your bike to Fulseck, then you're in for a treat. Always plan your trip properly, though, and make sure you always have plenty of fluids. You'll definitely need them on a long hike.
